My first Income through Affiliate Marketing

My First pennies!

When I say pennies, I mean pennies!! I have been a member of Wealthy Affiliate for nearly 2 months now and today I checked my Amazon Earnings and I have £3.46!!! I am beyond excited!! I know it doesn’t sound like much but I honestly didn’t expect to have earnt anything yet – I have been pottering around in my evenings when I can, so I am amazed that I have made anything!

After 2 months I have to admit that I absolutely LOVE Wealthy Affiliate – I mean, I love it! I would carry on with it without earning anything ever because I love the training, the resources and the community, you will probably read this as me trying to sell it to you and to be honest, I am – but only because I really do believe in it!! My only regret is that I can’t afford to buy the Black Friday deal which is $299 for a year instead of the full price I am paying now which is $49 per month!

How did this all start?

One morning I decided I wanted to learn more about making money online, what follows is a diary entry that I wrote the following day.

I’m going to have a go at making money online! I know that sounds like a cliché and a lot of people say that but I figured, my youngest child is 2 and my oldest is 18, at the moment we live on benefits as myself, my husband and 2 of my children have disabilities. I don’t want to live like this forever, I want to be able to provide for myself and my family. I don’t want to rely on the tories to pay my way!

However, because I have Autism, ADHD and Bipolar, my health can be very up and down – as can my childrens health -which means I can’t always guarantee being able to work outside the home regularly. I also Home Educate, for way to many reasons to go into here – I guess that will be another post.

Sorry, I got sidetracked, that happens a lot so if you decide to stick with me you’ll have to get used to it! As I was saying, I figured, that I have a good few years before my older kids move out and in that time I need to work out a way to supplement my income enough to live without benefits (or at least the benefits I will lose when they move out!) It sucks to have to think about it like that but unfortunately this is the reality for me.

I’m not expecting to make millions, and it might not even work, but I have time on my hands, a willingness to learn and an OK (ish) ability to write and use a computer! My husband is an aspiring author so I’d really like to be able to give him a platform for his writing too.

I am a founder member of a local charitable organisation named Q Space in Northampton, it’s main aim is to help the LGBTQ+ community and raise awareness, being involved with this led me to meet my good friend Tony who lives over the road. He is an absolute sweetheart and has helped me massively with setting up a website for QSpace and learning the basics of how to edit it and in return I proofread and edit his website for him.

You know when you meet someone who is really positive and optimistic and has a passion for teaching and helping people? Well that’s him in a nutshell! Even if he does like listening to the radio while he works! (I’m a strictly work in silence kinda girl!)

I absolutely urge anyone who wants to learn how to make money online, or just needs some fresh eyes on a project or some upbeat inspiration to see Tony – he will make the world of difference in a short time! He even walked my 10 year old through setting up her own baking website online and she did it! All by herself! That is a talent – take a 10 year old home educated kid with ADHD and get her to sit at a computer for a couple of hours and create a website!! Wow!

So, surprise surprise I got distracted again – while I was at Tony’s, I noticed he uses an interface called “Wealthy Affiliate” and I asked him what that was about – he replied with some kind of of-the-cuff remark about it wouldn’t really be for me because it’s about making money through affiliate marketing and I’m doing this charity, but he explained that it has a training programme that sort of walks you through it.

He also showed me what I thought of as the main draw, which was a live “Chat” channel where you can talk to other people who have been on the same journey as you or are still on it now. That was pretty much it until this morning when I couldn’t get it out of my mind and thought i‘d have another look for myself!

I couldn’t actually find the website myself but did find another blogger who was talking about it and it sounded good, the main thing for me is that is was completely free to start so what could I lose? If it wasn’t I couldn’t have done it as I have no money!!! That may sound like a joke, but is also completely true – off to the local “Pay as you feel” café later to get a free meal and do some washing up!

I’m also not as stupid as I sound and I did google for about an hour to check it this website is a scam and my honest result of one hour researching is INCONCLUSIVE!! There are as many people saying how great it is as saying how much of a scam it is! However, as far as I’m concerned, they won’t be scamming me of anything except time and I have quite a bit of that. I know, eventually there are extra things that you can add for a payment but I’m hoping by then I’ll have a better idea of what I’m doing and I can speak to Tony about it – because I trust Tony, then again that’s not a big thing for me, I tend to trust everyone until I’m proven otherwise, and it usually ends badly – but occasionally people prove their worth and restore my faith in humanity. (For example, my husband, Sarah, Juno, Ian, Will, Gaz … and loads more)

So anyway, I think you get the picture, I signed up to the site, and as soon as I did so they give you a little mini tour where you learn that if you get a certain amount of referalls to the site you get credits towards winning a prize, so already I feel bad because had I known that – I would have, obviously clicked on Tony’s referall but never mind – I’m there now.Our Crazy House

I have added my profile picture, just my generic facebook one, and I’ve filled in my expected goals, which are basically to learn about this stuff and maybe earn something, and my ideal ecstatic goals which would be to earn enough to come off benefits. I’ve also sent a whats app message to tony confessing that I signed up! Lol

I have just been talking to someone on the site and apparently I will have a website up and running within 4 days! Not so sure about that – I don’t think they know how distracted I get!

  1. This post about Wealthy Affiliate is really origenal.I’m happy you the training at WA has started working well for you and you have started making money on Amazon. Congratulations on that one.

WA is a platform that knows no equal out there. There is just not match.

I’m also sorry to hear about your family condition, but I remain very convinced that things will soon change, now that you have found wealthy affiliate.

Best Wishes for you and your family.

  2. Hi Jo, first off, what an inspirational story!! I’ve stumbled across this looking for a way to make money from my laptop while I travel to Asia and Australia. Bit of a blog maybe!?
On the scam front, I do actually know someone who has built a website through them and makes, well not a wage but always over 200 a month. Saying that, she has put about 6 months and a fair bit of graft in to get it going, but she’s happy with it.

I dunno maybe one day eh!?

    • Hiya!! Thanks for the comment and I’m sure if you get a blog up and running and work with Wealthy Affiliate you’ll have enough money to travel around Asia and Australia for a very very long time! Just avoid the spiders!!

  3. What an honest and uplifting story. WA is not a get rich quick scheme – you need to work at it and invest lots of energy and time to it. You’ve done a great job so far – stick with it and those pennies will soon be pounds !!

  4. Hi Jo Morris,
    I want to congratulate you.
You start making money online and helping people.
I am working on my website and want to help people keeping away scammers and hackers.
I hope that you will achieve your goal very soon.
    Have a nice day.

  5. Hi Jo,
This is awesome news! You can definitely have a site up and running quickly, and it’s great that you’ve got this going for you. Like you said, they’d only be robbing you of time and you’ve got plenty of that! I think the biggest challenge for me with my online work has been remaining consistent and motivated, as there is often quite a bit of time initially before things pick up and show results. Just curious, what do you think yours has been or will be?
Looking forward to hearing more about your journey 🙂

    • Hi Jason, I think my biggest challenge is and will continue to be staying motivated – a big problem for people with Autism anyway. My plan to help with this is to write content as much as I can while I’m “in the zone” so I have some stuff ready to post when and if I get a bit bored and need a break for a few days. That’s my plan anyway!! I suppose I’m a little different to most people on WA and I genuinely do see it as more of a hobby, almost a “game” if you like! This helps me to enjoy it a lot more and I really like helping people and learning new things! It’s weird – when it’s some kind of Quest that helps me to level up I don’t mind the grind – but as soon as it’s “Work” I get bored!!!

  6. Wow congratulations Jo, in just 2 months you made something that is rare and really awesome job. No doubt you are doing a great, I also enjoy your chit chat while explaining about WA, I actually read the whole post instead of scanning through which I mostly tend to do. No doubt WA is a wonderful community, I also feel the same that without earning anything I would still love to stay with them. Thank you for sharing.
